I don't think most kids actually grow up to become what they said they would
be in kindergarten. Unfortunately I did, but I didn't plan it that way, or
hold on to the dream of being an artist. It was mostly an accident I think,
it happened to fast to recall. My high school me wanted to be a programmer, until
he realized it would result in him hanging himself in the bathroom with his
shoelaces out of boredom. After I started learning photography in high
school, I thought "yeah, I could do this and get paid". Well that turned out
to be difficult, especially without any formal training or degrees. Falling back on a beginner design class I took in high school I signed up to start
college at The Art Institute of Washington, located in Virginia for graphic design.
I only
went for a tour, but they convinced me I should give them money. I did. That
might have been the best decision I ever made, That and Mr. T once told me over the phone
in kindergarten "I pity the fool that doesn't stay in school". I'm not
one to be pitied by anyone, especially Mr. T.
I started designing as an intern at Dorian Sono Luminus, though in less than a year, through a series of fortunate events
they made me the art director. I was that good, an art director six months before graduating. In all honesty, I was
very rough and unrefined. Two years of that and I was ready to work closer to DC, now that I had experience and a
distinct design style. I only worked a year as the art director of a marketing and advertising agency. I tired of
using red, white, blue and eagles, so I still side with Benjamin Franklin; the turkey is a noble bird and should be the
national symbol.
That's what has lead me to here, where ever that is supposed to be. I've done other work for other people,
including the infamous Michaele Salahi. You can see some photos I took at her "events". I also used to Photoshop
her publicity photos, smaller nose, touch up any imperfections, remove hubby's double chin. That's my only claim
to fame, and I am okay with that.
I'm happy with where my designing has taken me, and will stay here as long as they'll let me at NOVA Community College. I would like to
see where my photography goes next; that is going to be my next push. Though it is only from a purely hobby point of
view, but on a professional level of course. I think I want to work with some amateur models and do some
portrait/fashion work. And that's what I am looking for in the current future.
